Ice Guardians

'Ice Guardians' is a documentary about the hardships and consequences of being an enforcer in the NHL. Many topics are discussed during the film. Concussions, injuries, and roles were some of the many topics talked about in the almost two hour film.

The first thing I noticed while watching the film was the mood. The film immediately draws you in with some slow soft piano with some shots of players playing and a man talking about being a child and having the dream of being an NHL player. Being a hockey player myself I could relate with what he was saying and I was totally drawn in to the film. The film specifically talked about the role of being an enforcer in the NHL and I found it quite fascinating. The music throughout the film was in simple terms perfect. The music went perfectly with the mood of what was being said or shown at that time. The lighting was okay but the not best. The film was mostly shots in the film were of highlights or interactions on the ice or the locker room. The emotions that were seen by the people being interviewed were not expected. You have tough guys talking about the fear and pain that happened almost every night. Enforcers in the NHL have it very hard and they are rapidly going extinct. There simply isn't enough room in the talented NHL for 'tough guys' anymore. But without tough guys the game could possibly get even more deadly with cheap shots. Enforcers keep the game kind of under control and smooth(ish).
